Why the President of Argentina is refusing to sit with Donald Trump at the FIFA World Cup 2026 Final

Donald Trump won’t be seated anywhere near Javier Milei because the President of Argentina is refusing to watch the FIFA World Cup 2026 Final with him.

The biggest event in all of sports is less than 24 hours away, with the South American side gearing up to defend its trophy in an epic showdown with Spain at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, USA.

Javier Milei refuses to attend World Cup Final with Donald Trump

Javier Milei isn’t just intending to sit in a different part of the venue from Donald Trump, but an entirely different country, with the politician dead set on watching the match back in Argentina.

Milei has done this for every single one of his country’s matches in the tournament. And he doesn’t want to jinx the winning streak now.

WOW: How much does it cost to go to the FIFA World Cup 2026 Final?

When asked during an interview with El Observador, a Buenos Aires radio station, whether he would attend the game with the US President and FIFA President Gianni Infantino, he replied: “No way. I’m going to keep watching all the games from Olivos.”

Interestingly, this isn’t the only drastic measure the 55-year-old is taking to try to ensure a victory, with Milei adamant that he is going to wear a lucky piece of clothing.

He explained: “Since it’s cold and I don’t turn on the heat, I wear an oil company-branded jacket. The day of the Switzerland game, it made me really hot. I took it off, and they scored a goal against us. I put it back on and never took it off again.”

Argentina has a history of football superstition

While Milei’s superstitions are undoubtedly interesting, he’s certainly not the first Argentine president to act this way.

Back in 1990, Carlos Menem, who was the elected head of state at the time, went to visit Argentina before the side’s shock loss to Cameroon.

After he was branded a jinx, there’s no record of a sitting Argentine President attending a national team fixture ever since.
