WWE fear Randy Orton could be out for ‘the rest of the year’

A recent report indicates that WWE star Randy Orton could be out for the entirety of 2022 due to injury, in what would be a significant blow to fans.

‘The Viper’ hasn’t competed since RK-Bro’s loss to The Usos, in which they surrendered their tag team titles. Roman Reigns attacked Orton following the match and left him unconscious on the canvas.

The announcement from WWE, in the form of Orton’s tag partner Riddle, was that the 14-time world champion had injured his back, and had no choice other than to take some time off.

On May 23, Riddle addressed the situation during Monday Night Raw.

He said: “Randy Orton’s been having a really hard time with his back lately. Before our Tag Team Title Match, he could barely walk. I knew Randy wouldn’t let me down because he knew how much it went to me. And he knew how much it meant to you.”

It is still unclear as to the exact nature of Orton’s injury. But in an update that will further sadden the WWE Universe, it looks like the extent of the damage is worse than first thought.

Randy Orton injury could leave him out of WWE action for the year

Fightful Select claims that the popular wrestler may have to undergo surgery that would place him on the sidelines for the foreseeable future.

The report says: “Things have gotten progressively worse, and WWE fears that Orton will be forced to undergo surgery. If that happens, then he will likely be out of action for the rest of the year. It’s still unclear what the exact injury is.”

This could spell disaster for WWE. The company had, according to reports, planned a mouth-watering SummerSlam main event between Orton and Reigns. However, that now looks unlikely to occur.

Despite the intriguing storyline that had already developed, it’s looking like the promotion will have to go in another direction. There are other options WWE could choose for a blockbuster match against Reigns, including AJ Styles, Bobby Lashley or Seth Rollins.
