Formula 1 returns to the site of its first-ever race, the legendary Silverstone Circuit, for round 11 of the 2023 Championship. Here is the start time for the 2023 British Grand Prix, as well as how you can watch it for free on UK Television.
73 years ago, in 1950, the first official F1 championship race hurtled down to Woodcote corner to kick-start the most famous racing series in the world.
Of course, the sport and Silverstone itself has developed a lot since then. But the excitement and drama that the British Grand Prix circuit creates makes it a firm favourite with all fans.
Even in recent years, the F1 audience has been treated to some classics. For instance, in 2021, Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton’s rivalry had an incredible flashpoint after a touch between the pair sent the Dutchman hurtling into the barriers at Copse corner.
And what about last year? We had arguably the most entertaining race of the 2022 season as Carlos Sainz claimed his first career F1 victory.
However, for 2023, all directions point to Max Verstappen and Red Bull leading the way once again. The reigning champ is on a tremendously impressive five-race win streak. On top of this, Verstappen also has an 81-point lead in the standings.
This does not mean that the British Grand Prix cannot spring some surprises, though – so, what time does it all start?
British Grand Prix: the start time
The weekend’s action at Silverstone begins on Friday 7 July. As ever, we open with practice; FP1 is at 12:30pm UK time on Friday, then FP2 follows at 4pm.

Finally, and most importantly, the British Grand Prix has a start time of 3pm on Sunday 9 July.
