A date has reportedly been set for the trilogy fight between Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier.
The two men first went to war at UFC 178 in September 2014. On that night, McGregor scored a quick finish over his featherweight rival to continue his ascent towards the title.
McGregor’s revenge vs Poirier’s legacy
Fast forward to January of this year and Poirier gained his revenge with a brutal knockout/TKO win of his own on Fight Island.
Ever since that night the rumour mill has been swirling about a third meeting. McGregor wants it, Poirier wants it and most of the fans want it too.
Now, as per Georgian reporter Giorgi Kokiashvili, the plan is for the fight to go down on July 10.

I don't want to alarm you, but per @adjarasportTV and my sources, Poirier vs. McGregor 3 is being targeted for July 10th ! ⚔#UFC #UFC264 #DustinPoirier #ConorMcGregor #PoirierMcGregor3 #adjarasport #adjarasporttv #ufconadjarasport https://t.co/Qlt97TEksc pic.twitter.com/ruwGubpFAl
In all likelihood it would serve as the main event of UFC’s International Fight Week that goes down every year. In addition to one or two blockbuster cards, the promotion also puts on a whole host of other activities – although the scale of that may be limited this time around due to the pandemic.
Above all else, though, this would continue the UFC’s incredible start to 2021. Every single PPV card and the majority of Fight night events have featured blockbuster bouts, and you just know McGregor vs Poirier 3 would produce some fireworks.
The big question is whether or not Conor can make the adjustments necessary to win. He looked good with his boxing early on at UFC 257 but beyond that, he wasn’t able to cope with ‘The Diamond’ and his calf kicks.
While McGregor’s reputation makes it hard to ever write him off, you’d have to think another loss on his record this year would make a push for reclaiming the lightweight title that bit more unlikely.
