EXCLUSIVE: During a trip to the UK for the third year of the New York Jets NFL Girls Flag League, Isaiah Davis reflected on his time with Aaron Rodgers.
From the moment he first picked up the football, the American was destined for greatness. Davis initially excelled at flag himself, before being introduced to contact, where he embarked on a journey to the NFL.
Through years of hard work and determination, which saw him become a 2x NCAA champion and impress at the Combine with his 40-yard dash, the running back made it to the top level. And in a credit to his character, he’s taking full advantage of his opportunity to give back to the next generation.
Isaiah Davis opens up about what he learned from Aaron Rodgers
Last year was certainly memorable for Isaiah Davis. The star was selected with the 173rd overall pick in the 2024 NFL draft by the New York Jets, before later getting his first touchdown against the Seattle Seahawks.
During his rookie year, he had the opportunity to immerse himself in an environment of legends, with Aaron Rodgers blowing him away with his incredible knowledge of the sport.
In an exclusive interview with Sporf, Davis explained: “He’s a mastermind. Sometimes, he’d tell me things, and I wouldn’t even understand what he was trying to tell me, because he’d been doing it for so long. He was a great guy to be around and a great guy to learn from. Whether it was in the weight room or on the field, he always had that hard work mindset about him. He always tried to push me. He had high expectations, and that’s what made him so special.”
Having learned from one of the best to ever do it, the 23-year-old revelled in the chance to help out the future stars of Flag during a visit to London.
280 girls aged 12-15 from 28 schools joined the Jets in the capital to celebrate the launch of the league’s third year. The initiative continues to grow in 2025, with six new schools joining.
During an exciting day, Davis offered words of support from the sidelines, as the young athletes participated in a number of indoor and outdoor drills. They even had the opportunity to create their own ‘Player Passport’ through combine drills, such as the 40-yard Dash, in which Davis performed so well.
Isaiah Davis reveals emotional draft story
Perhaps the reason Davis is so keen to help the next wave of superstars is because he knows just how much the sport means to him.
After years of giving his all to hone his craft, he finally discovered he’d been drafted to the New York Jets, and couldn’t contain his emotion.
He remembered: “I was in Kansas City at a little bowling alley event with family, friends and coaches. I got the call around three o’clock, but it started at 12, and I was waiting around all day. It was funny, because the first time I put my phone down in my seat, was right when I got the call. It was a New Jersey number. When I got the call, I started bawling. I remember it was a feeling of all the hard work and the extra work that goes unseen, has paid off.”
