AC Milan and Puma have unveiled the Rossoneri’s 2023/24 home kit, where the unconventional design is sure to cause a stir among football fans.
Throughout their six-season partnership with Milan, the German brand has taken some liberties with their shirt designs. For instance, their fourth kit ideas in recent years have seen the Rossoneri sport some very innovative takes on the club’s colours.
Despite this, Puma has honoured the red and black stripes that are so synonymous with Milan’s home strip. Until this year, that is.
For the 2023/24 home kit, Milan will have much more red on their shirt. And rather than solid black stripes running vertically down the strip, Puma have opted for a very different concept.
A repeating pair of graphic horizontal lines run down the middle of the shirt, providing a stripe-style design. However, these also have angular sections pointing towards the middle of the jersey, which thus create an “M” pattern.
Puma says that this “M” design “represents the city of Milan”, as well as the Rossoneri’s “progressive nature”.
A simple, black V-neck collar coincides with black sleeve cuffs to frame the daring shirt.
Elsewhere, Milan maintains one typical aspect of their home kit for 2023/24 as the shorts and socks remain in black. They should help provide a nice contrast and allow the jersey to stand out even further.
AC Milan comment on new 2023/24 home kit
This bold artistic direction draws inspiration from the Italian city the Rossoneri calls home. Milan’s Chief Revenue Officer, Casper Stylsvig, hopes that the new strip strengthens the close affinity between the club and the City.
“The Rossoneri jersey has always been the emblem of the DNA of our club and fans,” said Stylsvig. “A symbol of passion capable of going beyond the playing field. Expressing a sense of belonging and style on the pitch, in the stands, and in the lives of all friends, transcending into a lifestyle icon.
“Today, more than ever, with the launch of this new home kit, we reaffirm our bond with the city of Milan. Celebrating its vibrant energy and attitude of its citizens, who embody the innovative and progressive spirit of this fantastic city.”
Following its release on social media, the new kit has definitely divided opinion among fans. Some supporters like the unorthodox presentation of the club’s colours. In contrast, critics online have compared the strip to a training top, rather than being Milan’s main shirt.
Either way, the Rossoneri fanbase will not have to wait long before seeing the new strip in action.
When will Milan wear their new shirt?
The 2023/24 Milan home kit will make its debut in the last match of the 2022/23 Serie A season.
Stefano Pioli’s side take on Hellas Verona at San Siro on Sunday 4 June. Here, they will showcase the new shirt in front of the raucous Rossoneri faithful.
Milan’s last match of the campaign is one that they can enjoy. After defeating Juventus last weekend, the Serie A giants have already secured Champions League qualification for next season. So, Puma’s latest effort for Milan will be in Europe’s top competition in 2023/24, too.
