AEW issue statement following Jeff Hardy’s arrest, confirm suspension

Former WWE star Jeff Hardy has been suspended by AEW after his recent arrest.

AEW have confirmed that following Hardy’s arrest, he will not wrestle again until he has ‘completed treatment and maintained his sobriety’.

Hardy was arrested earlier this week in Florida. The wrestler, famed for his Swanton Bomb finisher, was charged with driving while license cancelled/suspended/revoked, a violation of restrictions placed on driver’s license, and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. It is his third DUI arrest in 10 years.

Hardy was placed in custody at S. James Foxman Justice Centre in Daytona Beach, Florida and was issued a series of charges for the offences. In addition, the surety bond for the DUI charge was listed at $2,500. He posted bail after paying the $3,500 for the other charges, and was released from jail. A scheduled court appearance was ‘cancelled’.

Hardy has had multiple run-ins with the law during his time in the spotlight.

Jeff Hardy’s AEW career

Hardy joined his brother Matt at AEW earlier this year. Hardy turned down a place in the WWE Hall of Fame to join AEW.

AEW have recently been advertising a link-up between Jeff and his brother in a highly anticipated match between the Hardy Boyz, The Young Bucks and Jurassic Express. Because of Hardy’s arrest, this match is now in doubt.

AEW make Jeff Hardy statement

Following yesterday’s arrest, President and CEO of AEW, Tony Khan, made a statement.

It reads: “We were able to resume contact with Jeff Hardy this afternoon. AEW does not condone Jeff’s alleged behavior. We’ve made it clear to Jeff that we’ll assist him in getting treatment for substance abuse issues, which he has indicated that he’s open to receiving.

“In the interim, he is suspended without pay, and he can only return to AEW upon successfully completing treatment and maintaining his sobriety.

“If you or a loved one needs help, please reach out to SAMHSA’s National Helpline: 1-800-662-HELP (4357).”

In addition, as mentioned in the statement, AEW intend to help Hardy get treatment for his substance abuse. But they will allow him to return upon sobriety. Therefore, we could yet see the Hardy Boyz in action in AEW again.
