Ainsley Maitland-Niles takes aim at Arsenal on social media before he’s blocked out of training

Ainsley Maitland-Niles has taken aim at Arsenal on Instagram as he looks to leave the club on transfer deadline day.

The 24-year-old, who can play as a full-back on either side and in midfield, has been limited to a cameo appearance in the 5-0 defeat to Manchester City in the Premier League this season.

He spent the second half of the season at West Bromwich Albion on loan.

Arsenal currently have four senior right-backs on the books. Maitland-Niles, Cedric Soares, Hector Bellerin and Calum Chambers are all able to play there.

At the time of writing, however, Bellerin looks set to leave the club before the end of deadline day. Sky Sports say he is undergoing a medical at Real Betis ahead of a loan move.

The Gunners are also reportedly interested in signing Bologna defender Takehiro Tomiyasu.

Maitland-Niles is one player that is currently set to remain at Arsenal as things stands. The club reportedly rejected a loan bid from Everton for the full-back – and he made his feelings known on Instagram afterwards.

He posted: “All I wanna do is go where I’m wanted and where I’m gonna play”, adding in two crying emojis.

Now, the Daily Mirror have reported that Maitland-Niles has been told he will not be training with the Arsenal first team.

That decision certainly raises questions for what Arsenal’s intentions are in terms of Maitland-Niles’s future role at the club – and indeed whether he will be permitted to leave today.

With 11 hours to go until the window slams shut, this deal will definitely be one to keep a close eye on as the day progresses.
