Alexandre Lacazette will likely miss a friendly match between his side, Lyon, and Feyenoord because of an incredibly odd issue.
The Frenchman returned home to Lyon after a five-year stint with Arsenal in North London. Back in 2017, the Gunners paid £52.7 million for his services.
Lacazette then went on to score 71 goals in 206 appearances at Arsenal. However, his final season in the Premier League did not add many strikes to his tally; Lacazette scored just four league goals in 2021/22.
Therefore, he will hope that a return to his old club will bring a return to form. Rising through the Lyon academy, Alexandre Lacazette proved himself as a prolific scorer in Ligue 1. For instance, in his final three seasons in the French top flight, Lacazette hit 27, 21, and 28 goals. This also included a Golden Boot in the 2014/15 season.
For Lyon fans, this is a return of an old hero. Additionally, Lacazette is quite the signing given the side’s circumstances. Les Gones suffered a tough 2021/22, finishing eighth in Ligue 1 and missing out on European football altogether. Despite this, Lacazette has signed a three-year deal, and will try to lead Lyon back up the table.
But pre-season has not exactly been plain sailing.
Lyon’s pre-season so far
Thus far, the French side have won two and lost two in pre-season. In their first game, Lacazette opened the scoring as Lyon beat Bourg-en-Bresse 4-2. Then, a dual-fixture day against Dynamo Kyiv saw both a 3-1 loss and a 3-0 victory.
Les Gones most recent fixture was against Anderlecht. Unfortunately, Lyon lost 3-0, providing a mixed bag of results from their pre-season.
However, they still have two games left ahead of the start of their league season on 5 August. Lyon will play Feyenoord on 24 July, then finish with a match against Inter Milan on 30 July.
For the Feyenoord game, at least, it seems that Lyon will be without Alexandre Lacazette.
Alexandre Lacazette to miss Lyon friendly -because of wasps
Reports from L’Equipe have emerged which say that Lacazette is set to miss at least one of Lyon’s next two friendlies because of wasps.
During a training camp in the Netherlands, a swarm of wasps attacked the Frenchman, giving him multiple stings. The bizarre and likely painful situation means that Lacazette is currently recovering from more than a dozen stings.
According to the Daily Mirror, the forward’s teammate, Moussa Dembele, also suffered from this wasp attack. In contrast, the stings have affected Dembele less, therefore he has returned to training.
The game against Feyenoord may come too soon for Lacazette. He should be okay to play in Lyon’s final pre-season match against Inter Milan.
