AEW star Chris Jericho suffered a nasty-looking broken nose during a match on Dynamite against Eddie Kingston.
The wrestling legend was competing in a rarely-seen Barbed Wire match against Kingston, to settle a feud that has lasted for several months.
His current gimmick is the leader of a villainous stable called ‘The Jericho Appreciation Society’. The group’s primary function is, essentially, to beat up other wrestlers.
The group began a feud with the Blackpool Combat Club in May, consisting of ex-WWE stars Bryan Danielson, Jon Moxley and William Regal, and Wheeler Yuta. The latter joined forces with Santana, Ortiz and Kingston to fight off the Jericho Appreciation Society.
Jericho faced Kingston in a winner-takes-all Barbed Wire Everywhere match on Dynamite. Jericho’s group members, which include the likes of Sammy Guevara and Jake Hager, were suspended in a shark cage above the ring. However, Tay Conti retrieved the key from Ruby Soho, brought down the cage and unleashed the rest of the group on Kingston.
But support for Kingston arrived in the form of Yuta and Claudio Castagnoli, who began to beat down the Jericho Appreciation Society. Amid all the chaos, Jericho managed to pick up the win – but it came at a cost.
Chris Jericho suffers broken nose in AEW match
For the match-ending spot, Kingston picked up a chair, ready to hit a grounded Jericho. But the 51-year-old jumped to his feet, landing the Codebreaker on his opponent.
However, as Kingston fell, the chair jammed into Jericho’s face at an awkward angle. The chair was wrapped with barbed wire, making the impact even more painful.
Despite being in apparent discomfort, he managed to secure the pinfall on Kingston. But the camera panned to Jericho after the match, with blood pouring from his nose. The AEW star can be seen holding his nose, which is already notably disfigured.
AEW’s official account later updated fans on Jericho’s condition. They confirmed that he has suffered a broken nose. They posted a photo of Jericho with his nose bandaged up.
It is unclear whether the broken nose will rule him out of in-ring action – but we’ve seen Jericho battle through worse in his wrestling career.
