Andoni Iraola made a worrying confession after Liverpool lost 4-2 to Leeds United.

In a match ‘The Reds’ would rather forget, they threw away a 2-0 lead in a disastrous turn of events at Soldier Field in Chicago, Illinois, USA.

Having claimed victories over Wrexham and Sunderland, Liverpool were hoping to continue their winning run Stateside. Alas, despite a bright start, things went terribly wrong.

At half-time, following goals from Luke Chambers and Florian Wirtz, the Premier League giants couldn’t have been in a much stronger position. However, the second 45 minutes went sour, with Leeds producing a tremendous comeback, courtesy of a brace from Dominic Calvert-Lewin as well as goals from Brenden Aaronson and Sean Longstaff.

In the aftermath of the contest, Andoni Iraola conceded that despite the loss, his side got a lot out of the fixture against the Yorkshire club.

According to Liverpool’s website, the manager explained: “Obviously it’s not the result you want, but I think [it was] probably the most useful friendly we played – in a positive way in the first half and in a negative way in the second half. I think we’ve learned a lot from today and I think we can take good conclusions and solve some things.”

Despite suffering defeat against Leeds, Iraola had a lot of positive things to say about his side’s time in America.

He explained: “At the end, you can see straight away that this is a massive club [with] all the supporters that we have, even overseas. We want to get ready [for] the start of the season – that is when people want to see us play well and get results.”
