Anthony Joshua has hinted that an announcement regarding his next bout could be imminent.
For weeks now the pieces have seemingly been falling into place for AJ to finally lock horns with Tyson Fury. It’s the superfight everyone wants to see, and it’s the fight heavyweight boxing needs.
Joshua last competed back in December when he knocked out Kubrat Pulev to retain his WBA (Super), IBF, WBO, and IBO heavyweight titles. Fury, on the other hand, dismantled Deontay Wilder last February to win the WBC and The Ring heavyweight titles.
Let’s get ready to rumble?
With mandatory challengers being encouraged to step aside, Joshua vs Fury seems closer than ever. Whether or not both men actually sign on the dotted line, though, remains to be seen.
The following tweet from Joshua comes just a few months after he cheekily invited Fury to join his 258 Management group.
Such a mammoth contest would obviously invite a lot of attention and it’d also invite a lot of potential venues. While logic may dictate this should take place at Wembley Stadium, the COVID-19 pandemic raises questions over how many fans could be in attendance.
The battle everyone wants to see
As a result, the idea of shifting the fight further East has been floated around given the comparative success they’ve had with handling the pandemic. The money for this to happen is certainly there, with Joshua’s appearance in Saudi Arabia back in December 2019 serving as proof of that.
At one point this felt like a million miles away after Joshua lost his belts to Andy Ruiz Jr. However, almost two years on, both AJ and Tyson have arguably never been more popular.
The world is watching – and all that’s left is for the confirmation to come through.
