Arsenal set to pay a premium fee for Gabriel Jesus despite expiring contract

Arsenal look set to break the bank to secure the services of Manchester City striker Gabriel Jesus.

At the start of the season, ‘The Gunners’ couldn’t have played much worse. Losses to Tottenham, Brentford and Chelsea, followed by a 5-0 thumping at the hands of Manchester City, left the London club at the bottom of the table. Consequently, their fans wanted Mikel Arteta thrown to the wolves.

However, slowly but surely, the Spaniard ironed out the kinks and got his side playing to a decent standard. They skyrocketed up the table, surpassed Manchester United and Tottenham and are favourites to secure Champions League football. But that doesn’t mean they’re even close to their best.

If Arsenal want to rediscover their blistering form of The Invincible days, they need to secure a world-class striker. And it looks like they have, albeit at a premium price.

Arsenal want Gabriel Jesus

‘The North London side have entered advanced negotiations with Manchester City to bring the forward to The Emirates.

There’s no doubt the Brazilian would bolster Arsenal’s front line. Throughout his time with ‘The Cityzens’, he’s exuded technical brilliance, creativity, an eye for goal and a strong work ethic. However, his asking price is steep.

As per Uol Sport, City want a minimum of €50 million, but could push as far as €60 million, making it a very lucrative deal for the league leaders. Arsenal seem keen to finalise the agreement regardless of the player only having a year left on his contract.

But perhaps the most interesting part of this potential transfer is the shrewd manner in which City have bolstered their attack. They’re performing a smooth operation in which they lose Jesus but bring in the striking prowess of Erling Haaland for a deficit of only around £10 million.
