Arsenal use ’71 retro template for their new away shirt

If you’re a fan of retro shirts, and a fan of Arsenal, you’re in for an absolute treat with the club’s new away kit.

Celebrating the 50th anniversary of the 1971 double-winning side, the new strip sees a return to Arsenal’s traditional away colour scheme of yellow and blue.

More notably though, is the return of the side’s iconic cannon crest, which hasn’t been seen on an Arsenal shirt for more than two decades – a particular point of excitement among fans.

Unsurprisingly, it’s the cannon that becomes the centre-piece in Adidas’ suitably nostalgic unveiling clip.

The 1970/71 English football season was a truly historic campaign for Arsenal, winning both the Football League First Division and the FA Cup trophy becoming just the fourth side in history to complete the coveted double.” The Arsenal website reads.

“It would take another eighteen years before winning another league cup on a remarkable night at Anfield often referred to as the greatest end to a league season that has ever been. Inspired by the past, ready for the future.”
