Austin Theory had a close relationship with Vince McMahon, and now he’s broken his silence on the WWE founder leaving his position.
The 25-year-old, who, according to PWInsider, will soon go back to using his full in-ring name, initially arrived in the promotion as McMahon’s protege.
Similarly to Drew McIntyre, the wrestler was handpicked by the ex-chairman and CEO. He was touted to go on to do big things.
And right now, he’s living up to his hype. The former United States Champion, who’s become one of the biggest heels in the company, recently won the Money in the Bank ladder match, which gives him a shot at either world title at any time of his choosing.
Therefore, he owes his former boss a lot, and after a spell of silence, he’s opened up on the situation.
Austin Theory talks Vince McMahon leaving WWE
Speaking to Shakiel Mahjouri of CBS Sports (quotes via WrestlingNews), he said: “So to me, the first thing you think of is like, ‘Well then who’s in charge?’ As soon as I found out who the team was, Stephanie, Triple H, Nick Khan, Bruce Prichard, I have a good relationship with all of them.”
He continued: “But I think the Mr. McMahon retirement got a lot of us because, you know, we’ve seen him forever. He laid the foundation. Literally, there’s all these Superstars because of Mr McMahon. I think it was just kind of like, ‘Wow’. Like, ‘That’s really happening’. So that’s kind of where it got me there.”
Theory also explained his opinion on ‘The Game’ taking over as Head of Creative: “As far as creative and the future, no worries about that. Just because of the talent. And being with Triple H before, and knowing his strategies and his creative power, and his direction of how he looks at things.
“Not only having him, but we have Stephanie, we have Nick Khan, we have Bruce Prichard. These are all eyes that are on the game in different ways.
I think when it comes to that foundation Mr McMahon has laid for us, okay, here’s these people to give us a bunch of creativity, and here it is. I think it’s no better time than now, especially even just speaking on the talent that’s involved now, that’s on the roster. We have a hell of a roster. So it’s very exciting to know what the future is, and it’s going to be very competitive.”
