Floyd Mayweather names his top pound-for-pound fighter

We all have our own favourites for the best pound-for-pound fighters in boxing, though Floyd Mayweather’s opinion comes with a little more authority.

Boasting a perfect record in the ring, Mayweather was asked who he now considered the best pound-for-pound name during a Q&A in Rotherham.

While he touted Gervonta Davis as the most exciting man in the sport, it was the undefeated Terence Crawford singled out as the pound-for-pound best.

“Right now, if I had to say a guy who’s number one pound-for-pound, and I’m not just saying this because… it’s two guys,” he explained.

“The most exciting fighter in boxing right now is Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis. He’s the most exciting.

“At the end of the day, I think he’s 22-0 with 21 knockouts [sic – 23-0 with 22 KOs].

“Hands down Gervonta Davis is the most-exciting fighter in the sport of boxing right now. Pound for pound, I would have to say Terence Crawford.”

The 32-year-old is hardly a controversial choice – a three-weight world champion, the current WBO welterweight title holder has won all 36 of his previous fights, with 27 of those victories coming by KO.

During his Q&A tour, Mayweather also opened up on the possibility of buying Newcastle United.

“In the US we call it soccer but the Newcastle football team is an unbelievable team.” The boxer teased.

“If the people want me to buy the Newcastle team let me know.”

According to TMZ, representatives of Mayweather confirmed his interest was genuine, though no official conversations have been held.
