Burnley commentators make very salty comments after Brentford defeat

As football fans, most of us have, at least once, been guilty of making salty comments after our club loses. But two Burnley commentators took things to the next level after their defeat against Brentford.

The battle for survival in this year’s Premier League is reaching boiling point. With around 10 games to go for each team, those at the bottom of the table are desperately scrambling to pick up those all-important points that will keep them in the division.

Yesterday’s encounter between Brentford and Burnley was almost the definition of a six-pointer. The Bees started the day six points above the drop zone, whilst Burnley knew a point would see them climb out of the bottom three.

The London club bossed large portions of the game, dominating the lion’s share of possession. But regardless, they struggled to find that all-important goal to break the deadlock.

It looked like Burnley had secured a vital point, but then came the defining blow. A beautiful cross from Christian Eriksen was met perfectly by Ivan Toney. The 25-year-old nodded the ball home with thundering precision to render Nick Pope helpless in the Burnley goal.

The goal devastated the travelling supporters, whose team looked set to let slip a vital opportunity. But then, to make matters worse, Nathan Collins dragged Toney down in the penalty area. The defender received a red card, and the striker converted the spot-kick to make it 2-0.

Unsurprisingly, this sent the Brentford supporters into delight. But not everyone from the Burnley contingent was able to suppress their disappointment at losing the game.

Burnley commentators slam Brentford

It’s fair to say that most fans will have plenty of thoughts in their head about an opposition team after a poor result.

But sitting at home or in the stands, we don’t always have a microphone to air our opinions to the world. There is social media, of course, but fans usually have time to reflect on their words before publishing to the world.

However, following Burnley’s defeat to Brentford, two commentators had the equipment to make their live evaluations painstaking clear.

After watching their opposition celebrate right underneath their noses, they couldn’t hold back their unfiltered rage.

One said: “They’re celebrating here like they’re staying up. They could go and lose eight on the spin here.”

The other responded: “It’s like they’ve won the Champions League. This is not the end. For most of that game, we dominated it, so they can bounce around all they like; they could still go down as well.”
