Manchester United booked their place in the Europa League final despite falling to a 3-2 defeat on the night against Roma.
Many thought the game ran the risk of being a bit flat given United’s dominant 6-2 win in the first leg, however, that was far from the case.
Edinson Cavani was the star man on the night once more, bagging another brace and putting in another complete centre-forward performance.
The night wasn’t without its hiccups though. While it would have taken something truly monumental to overturn the deficit, Roma made a real go of it and forced David de Gea into a performance that was far more reminiscent of the figure that was widely regarded as one of the best goalkeepers in the world.
From the moment Cavani arrived at United, he pretty much immediately adorned himself to fans. A combination of savvy movement, lethal finishing and admirable work rate has led to a desperation for the Uruguayan to extend his stay at Old Trafford for another year.
If he hadn’t already won the hearts of all United fans, he can also add getting stuck in on behalf of Mason Greenwood to his list of qualities.
In the latter stages of the game, Greenwood was confronted by Gianluca Mancini and Rick Karsdorp in the corner of the pitch. Almost immediately, his teammate raced over to confront both Roma players himself.
You mess with Mason Greenwood…

Unsurprisingly, Cavani’s eagerness to back up the youngster was a popular development among United fans.
Cavani backing Greenwood in the beef? Haha yes lad. Sign the contract and continue the mentorship.

Cavani is so funny, bloke likes petting horses and fishing off the pitch but would happily fight the oppositions full squad if needed

There remains uncertainty over whether or not Cavani will still be a United player beyond this season, with the striker said to be interested in a return to South America.
However, Solskjaer has been vocal in his desire to keep him at the club, which is hardly a surprise given the instant impact he’s had.
