Chelsea Women’s star Sam Kerr floors pitch invader during UCL match

There is no need to ask Sam Kerr how she feels about pitch invaders. Her actions last night made those feelings crystal clear.

The Chelsea Women’s forward was on the pitch for the Blues during their Champions League match against Juventus when play halted.

A pitch invader had stolen a march on the stewards and paraded around recording himself on his phone to celebrate.

Kerr, being a rational human being, reacted with furious anger.

Kerr is one of the best players on the planet. She recently finished third in the Ballon d’Or Féminin, thanks, in part, to 44 goals in her last 52 appearances for Chelsea.

Yet if Kerr decides that she’s finished with football, she could probably get a gig as a bouncer on this evidence. Or at least a competent steward.

Or what about a motion capture rhino? She showed her impressive charge by ramming a hard shoulder into the obnoxious unwanted guest, flooring him.

Now, if ever the term ‘fair shoulder’ was applicable, it surely fits this situation. The referee disagreed, though, booking Kerr for the aggressive act. It was one of the highlights of an otherwise dull game that finished goalless.

How good are Chelsea Women?

One of the best teams in women’s football, Chelsea are competing on all fronts in this campaign. It was almost a clean sweep for the Blues in every competition last season. Emma Hayes’ team won the league, the FA Cup, the League Cup and charity shield.

However, one piece of silverware they missed out on was the Champions League, in which they were runners-up against Barcelona. The Catalan giants ran out 4-0 winners, opening the scoring as early as the first minute.

Despite all of their success, the crushing defeat left a sour taste in the mouth of Chelsea players and coaches. Little wonder Kerr had no time for shenanigans. She wants to win this competition and won’t tolerate anything that gets in the way.
