Claressa Shields believes she would “embarrass” Jake Paul

Unbeaten boxing great Claressa Shields believes she would embarrass Jake Paul if she ever sparred with the YouTuber turned boxer.

Shields, who is set to compete in her second-ever pro mixed martial arts bout tonight against Abigail Montes at PFL 10, is best known for her decorated career in boxing. The 26-year-old won Olympic gold medals at London 2012 and Rio 2016 before turning pro and building up an 11-0 record. Now, as the WBA, WBC, IBF, and The Ring middleweight champion, Shields has opted to blend together both her boxing run and a stint in MMA.

On the flip side, you’ve got Jake Paul who, as we all know, has been rubbing folks the wrong way ever since he turned professional.

When asked about what would happen if the two ever fought, Shields couldn’t help but laugh.

“I don’t know what world people live in that they think a man [could beat me] who has not been to the Olympics, who has not fought professionally.

“There are a lot of women in boxing who could [out-box] men, especially a regular joe like Jake Paul!

“I know it’s too much to fight him because it would be too embarrassing [for him], but if I were to spar Jake, I could use one hand.”

Is Jake Paul good or bad for boxing?

While he may be bringing some new eyes to the sport on a temporary basis, the appeal of Jake Paul hasn’t quite spread to some of the lesser-known stars on the scene. There are definitely some fighters who are receiving a nice financial rub from being on the same card as him but that tends to be where the “change” ends.

Claressa Shields isn’t everyone’s cup of tea but in this instance, she’s right on the money.
