Daniel Cormier responds to complaints of ‘biased commentary’ at UFC 259

UFC icon Daniel Cormier has responded to a fan suggesting he provided biased commentary at UFC 259.

Cormier, a former two-weight world champion, is now best known for his work as an analyst for the promotion. This largely involves sitting at the commentary booth where he tends to be on the call for most big fights.

That included UFC 259 last weekend and, more specifically, the main event between Jan Blachowicz and Israel Adesanya.

Commentator’s curse?

During and after the fight, a few complaints surfaced that Cormier and Joe Rogan had perhaps shown an element of bias towards Adesanya.

Cormier stood by his commentary on the night though, responding to one disgruntled viewer on Twitter.

“I just rewatched, I don’t agree at all. I was actually speaking to Jan and the times he was successful, I had fight 2-2 going into 5 and after watching it again I feel same way. Nothing changed. And btw Jan did bite on a ton of fakes and feints. Izzy didn’t capitalize”.

As we now know, Blachowicz won the fight via unanimous decision to retain his UFC Light Heavyweight Championship.

It’s definitely worth noting that MMA commentary is no easy job. A competition that can flip on its head in a matter of seconds, those on the mic have got to be sharp in spotting the flow of the fight.
