EA to include women’s club teams for the first time in FIFA 23

EA Sports have announced that women’s club teams will be included in FIFA 23 for the first time in the history of the FIFA series.

The news follows the announcement that Chelsea striker Sam Kerr will become the first female footballer to feature on a global cover of a FIFA game.

In previous editions of FIFA, players have been able to play as some of the top international sides in the world. They include England, United States, Spain and France.

Women’s football is currently available in the Kick-Off mode. There is also an in-game tournament that women’s teams can play in.

International teams are here to stay, with a focus on the 2023 Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand. EA will release more details closer to release day.

In addition, women’s club sides will now be in FIFA for the first time – something which fans have long requested.

Players can compete as teams in the Women’s Super League. In addition, teams from the Division 1 Arkema (the top division of French football) are also playable.

EA have already released several screenshots of women’s club football in action in FIFA 23. Alongside Kerr, Manchester City and England forward, Chloe Kelly, is the other featured women’s star.

Another new addition to the women’s football section of the game is the inclusion of 1 vs 1 crossplay. It gives players more ways to play FIFA than ever before.

EA have also utilised ‘Dedicated Advanced 11v11 Match Capture of a full-intensity women’s match’. In addition, they have combined this with machine learning technology to create ‘authentic animation informed by the movement of real-life women’s players’.

In a statement announcing the news, EA said: “Play as women’s club teams for the first time in EA Sports FIFA history as the Barclays FA Women’s Super League and Division 1 Arkema come to FIFA 23 at launch.

“Plus, enjoy dedicated HyperMotion2 capture that powers the women’s game to make female players move authentically in FIFA 23.”
