In March, Janela concluded a three-year stint in AEW. He’s now looking to make an impact on the independent scene.

He attempted to create a viral moment during a match with Drew Parker. Of course, he did, albeit for all the wrong reasons.

Joey Janela sets his boot on fire

The 32-year-old has always pushed the boundaries throughout his career, so setting his own boot alight definitely wasn’t out of character. It also made for a pretty epic superkick, which he executed to absolute perfection.

However, despite the precision of the spot, the American faced one huge problem. The flames wouldn’t go out. He then sat in the middle of the ring, desperately trying to get the blazing boot off his foot.

This left the announcers concerned, with one shouting: “Get him some f***ing water.”

The referee and other personnel rushed to Janela’s aid to try and put out the flames. Luckily, after drenching the boot in water, they extinguished the fire.

The charismatic performer thankfully came out of the match unharmed. He later took to social media to give the world a jovial update on how he’s getting on.

He said: “Trying to go to bed, but it still won’t go out. I already spent $36 at the vending machine on seven bottles of water. Tried WebMD too. Any suggestions?

Regardless, Janela will hope that his little accident has caught the eye of the bigger promotions. According to WrestlingNews.co, AEW was reportedly frustrated that the performer injured Eddie Kingston as it changed their TV plans.

Furthermore, rumours within the company suggested that several talents were hurt while working with Janela. But he later claimed that he and Kingston have no animosity over the “mistake”, in addition to denying that he injured ‘Hangman’ Adam Page.
