Ian Machado Garry had plenty to say to Khabib Nurmagomedov after losing to Islam Makhachev at UFC 330.

The Irishman produced a spirited effort, en route to falling short via unanimous decision at the Xfinity Mobile Arena in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA.

Ian Machado Garry gave it his all against Islam Makhachev.

The fight didn’t start brilliantly for the underdog, with his rival utilising his superior grappling to cruise through the first round.

In the second segment, the challenger came out from his corner determined to turn the ferocious tide. Alas, it didn’t work out like that, with Makhachev dropping Garry with an almighty head kick.

Somehow, the Dubliner didn’t just survive, but thrived, winning the third and pushing the icon very close in the fourth. However, in the fifth, Makhachev went through the gears, dominating the final five minutes in fashion to win a unanimous decision.

And following the contest, Garry had all the praise in the world for Khabib Nurmagomedov, telling the superstar: “I mean it, you guys are the best in the world. Look at your gym, look at everything you guys do. You guys are amazing; I have nothing but respect for you. Congratulations on tonight, and thank you; I appreciate it — great class and great challenge.”

Garry had nothing but positive things to say about his rival in his UFC 330 post-fight interview.

And for the most part, Makhachev was equally respectful.

However, he did make one comment that will have stung the man from the Emerald Isle.

Surprisingly, Makhachev named an opponent tougher than Garry.
