Although it seemed inevitable that Kylian Mbappe would make a move to Real Madrid, PSG is applying late pressure to make him sign a new contract.
On June 30, fans at the Bernabeu expected to welcome the Frenchman with open arms. It’s no secret that Mbappe has a deep-rooted love for the Spanish side. But with only a few months left before his contract expires, new reports suggest a move to Spain could be in jeopardy.
According to journalist Daniel Riolo, Mbappé will make a complete U-turn. At the end of the season, the World Cup winner will announce that he will remain at PSG.
This stunning change in direction has shocked fans around the globe, mainly because Mbappe only seemed to have one destination on his mind. But the 23-year-old’s decision hasn’t come without outside influence.
According to renowned reporter Romain Molina, French President Emmanuel Macron has insisted that the forward stay with ‘Les Parisiens.’
The Head of State is supported by his predecessor, Nicolas Sarkozy, who has a long-lasting relationship with the European giants. Furthermore, the Emir of Qatar is also desperate for Mbappe to remain at his current club. Qatar wants the three-time Ligue 1 champion as a PSG player going into the 2022 World Cup.
This has resulted in an enormous backlash from football fans.
Supporters give their say on Kylian Mbappe contract situation
Usually, when a player comes to the end of their agreed deal, they have the option to weigh up all their options and pick the best one.
But in this case, there is a lot of pressure for the footballer to dismiss the chance of a lifetime in favour of remaining at a club that doesn’t excite him.
Fans believe that Mbappe is being pressured into remaining at the club. So they’ve taken to Reddit to express their disgust.
One fan said: “This is why states shouldn’t be allowed to own teams. This has become political to them. Let Mbappe make his decision on his own without all this pressure.”
While another added: “This is f***ed up actually. Too much pressure on him.”
A third fan pointed out: “He’s only 23. Leave him alone and let him do what he wants.”
The calls from powerful people for Mbappe to stay at the club have gone down poorly with supporters. But regardless, it looks like they may get what they wanted.
