Gianluigi Donnarumma slated by fans for ‘massive mistake’ during Real Madrid clash

Gianluigi Donnarumma has received huge backlash from fans.

The Manchester City goalkeeper was left mortified after making a shocking error during the first leg of his club’s Round of 16 Champions League clash against Real Madrid.

Tonight, ‘The Cityzens’ have travelled to the Bernabéu for an almighty clash with the Spanish giants, in which Pep Guardiola hopes to get a result against the team with which he shared so many titanic clashes as a player and a manager during his days with Barcelona.

Alas, that dream soon turned into a nightmare when Thibaut Courtois booted the ball upfield to Federico Valverde, who burst towards goal, prompting Gianluigi Donnarumma to make an attempt at tackling the player with his feet, rather than using his hands, perhaps not realising they were still in the box.

The ball ultimately ended up going underneath the shot-stopper, allowing the Uruguayan to strike it home into an empty net.

Of course, fans were quick to head to social media to slate the talented player.

One person said: “What a howler from Donnarumma,” while another added: “What was he thinking? Unbelievable.”

A third posted: “Donnarumma forgot he had hands for a second. “This is madness, just pure madness.”

Things got a lot worse for the Italian, as by half-time, City found itself 3-0 down.
