EXCLUSIVE: Gianluigi Buffon was left stunned when a natural-born goal scorer put the ball past him three times in 14 minutes.
While the Italian is undeniably one of the best to have ever worn a pair of gloves, on this occasion, he was rendered helpless by the shooting accuracy of this talented player.
Giuseppe Rossi changed his technique to score his first of three goals against Gianluigi Buffon
On October 20, 2013, Giuseppe Rossi produced one of the best performances of his entire career. After his side went 2-0 down against Juventus, he managed to pull off something truly special. When his team won a penalty kick, the striker altered his technique to fool Gianluigi Buffon, opening the door for him to score another two goals in a remarkably quick period of time.
In an exclusive interview with Sporf, via BetVictor Online Casino, Rossi explained: “Listen, it was a crazy game. We were losing 2-0 against Juventus. I was playing for Fiorentina. It’s a big rivalry. Half-time comes, and there was a shift in mentality and energy where we thought, ‘Let’s get that first goal, and after that, things will change’. We were able to score from a penalty from me. I played with ‘Gigi’ on the national team for many years, so he knew my cadence running towards the ball, so I kind of changed it, and that’s why I was able to get it past him.
“There was another moment right after: I got past a bunch of players, shot the ball towards the goal. The ball moved weirdly so that Gigi couldn’t get his hand to it — boom, it was 2-2, and everybody was going crazy. After five minutes, Joaquin gets the ball, he slots it in, we’re winning 3-2, and it’s pandemonium. I couldn’t breathe, everything was going so fast, you’re using so much energy celebrating. Then, after a couple of minutes, there was a counterattack; Juan Cuadrado passed me a beautiful ball in the middle, and I slotted it in for my third goal. Everybody jumped on top of me. It was the best feeling ever. Scoring any goal is amazing, but to do it against a rival like Juventus, and against Gigi, the greatest goalkeeper who’s ever lived, that’s something that I’ll be telling my grandkids for sure.”
