Many people stand to benefit from Lionel Messi’s switch to Paris Saint-Germain – and that includes basketball legend Michael Jordan.
The Argentine wizard is one of the most exciting players in world football today and that’s been the case for well over a decade now. As such, his transfer from Barcelona to PSG served as one of the biggest moments of the year so far in the beautiful game and one of the most dramatic developments in the summer window.
A match made in heaven
The pictures of Messi wearing that PSG shirt will live long in the memory for fans and pundits alike, and the same can be said for Michael Jordan.
The former Chicago Bulls star holds a vast financial empire courtesy of his “Jordan” brand which, for the last two years, has been the kit provider for Paris Saint-Germain.
As per a recent report from Marca, Jordan takes home 5% of the cut whenever a kit is sold and with Messi shirts reportedly earning PSG up to €120 million thus far, that means MJ has been able to pocket a tidy €6 million – and they’re really only just getting started.
On the pitch there’s no way of knowing if the Messi, Neymar and Mbappe experiment is going to earn PSG that long-awaited European Cup triumph. Off of it, though, there’s a very clear direction the club is taking this marketing in, to the point where they’re going to be printing money for fun throughout the course of Leo’s stay in the French capital.
Messi is expected to formally debut for his new side against Reims on August 29 but as far as Michael Jordan is concerned, things are already going extremely well.
