How could Renato Sanches fit into different Premier League sides?

Renato Sanches has looked nothing short of sensational during his time with Lille. With English teams reportedly calling, could the Portuguese star soon make the switch to the Premier League?

The 24-year-old rose to prominence during Euro 2016, in which he played his part in Portgual’s famous victory.

Before the tournament, German giants Bayern Munich had signed him for a massive £30 million. However, the midfielder flattered to deceive at the Allianz Arena, and his rise to stardom looked unlikely to unfold.

The versatile player has rediscovered his very best form in Ligue 1 since signing for Lille. He has performed to a very high standard.

Sanches is now once again a valuable commodity to any team. He has said he is “ready” to leave Lille.

In an interview with L’Equipe (as per Calciomercato), Sanches said he would “evaluate” any offer from AC Milan, whilst he almost signed for Barcelona in the last transfer window.

Arsenal and Liverpool, meanwhile, have both been linked with the midfielder in recent weeks. Manchester United are also reportedly not out of the hotly contested race for the Lille man’s signature. But which English club would Sanches fit into the best?

Arsenal

One option for Sanches could be to move to the Emirates Stadium. In his interview with L’Equipe, the midfielder discussed a potential move.

He said: “Who is interested in me? Maybe Milan and Arsenal are interested. I talked to my agent. I know which clubs are calling and which are not, but now I can’t tell. But I know I’m ready. If it happens, I’ll see what’s best for me.”

Sanches would slot straight into Arsenal’s midfield. The Gunners have often struggled in this area, but the club’s fans believe that the Euro 2016 winner would be the answer to all of their problems.

Liverpool

Liverpool is another possible English destination for Sanches in January. He could arrive to replace Georginio Wijnaldum after the midfielder exited last summer finally.

The Dutchman’s midfield role was pivotal in Liverpool’s ability to win matches consistently. When Fabinho could not win the ball, Wijnaldum’s ability to block passing lanes allowed his team to regain their shape.

Liverpool have been more open to counter-attacks on occasion this season, but Sanches could be their solution. His ability to play in defensive midfield and composure in possession would allow him to replicate the vital role that Wijnaldum played last season.

Manchester United

Manchester United are another club that could potentially sign Renato Sanches. He could drastically enhance their side.

United have struggled all season in the defensive midfield area. Although good players, Nemanja Matic and Fred haven’t been able to cut it for the Manchester side. The addition of the 24-year-old in this area could be essential if United are to kickstart their quest for league titles again.

Paul Pogba could walk away from the Theatre of Dreams next summer. Sanches would be an excellent replacement. Not only would his passing ability shine through, but his chemistry with countryman Bruno Fernandes would undoubtedly help United leaps and bounds.

In all likelihood, Sanches could still sign for AC Milan. His physical presence and versatility in all aspects of the midfield game would excite English football fans.

He may have struggled during his loan spell at Swansea, but the Portuguese star has become a completely different player since then.
