‘I went at it with Myles Garrett’… Terron Armstead opens up about his epic battle with the legend

EXCLUSIVE: Terron Armstead produced a spectacular performance to get the better of Myles Garrett.

The icon, who’s making waves with his new podcast, ‘The Set’, has reflected on his clash with the superstar.

Terron Armstead has massive respect for Myles Garrett

On September 16, 2018, Terron Armstead’s New Orleans Saints went to war against Myles Garrett’s Cleveland Browns in an epic showdown in which both players put it all on the line in pursuit of victory.

Showcasing his unrelenting will to win, the offensive tackle got the better of the encounter, with his team emerging victorious with a score of 21-18.

In an exclusive interview with Sporf, Armstead reminisced: “That 2018 match-up I feel like is a top-five O-line D-line one-on-one battle. We really went after it the entire game from start to finish. Now, in defensive schemes, you see guys move around a lot. So, he can be lined up over me, then over the right tackle, over the centre, and a lot of schemes, a lot of tight end help and running back help. 2018, when we lined up and got busy, he stayed right there, I stayed right in my spot, and we just went at it. It was incredible. It was what you play the game for, that level of competitiveness. You want to play against the greats, and he is that, undoubtedly. He’s a first ballot Hall of Famer, going down as one of the best ever. It was amazing to have that match-up.”

And Garrett isn’t the only superstar of the sport that Armstead has claimed the bragging rights over, with the former player once making a rival cry after beating him in a playoff game.

Armstead chuckled: “Shout out to Chris Long, he’s killing it with The Green Light podcast. He really had no business crying and being upset because he had already won the Super Bowl. We were chasing something and we still didn’t get there, so I should be the one crying. He got the Super Bowl ring, so I really don’t want to hear that, Chris.”

In addition, the host of The Set, has conducted a plethora of hard-hitting interviews with an array of the greats of the game, in which he’s gone above and beyond to make sure the guests are comfortable opening up and providing the fans with remarkable stories from their careers.

Armstead explained: “We’ve had great guests and the conversations that we’ve had, for me, when it comes to a personal relationship, like with Tyreek Hill, that conversation went to a place that will be unique from anything else you will see from him because of the level of comfort between us having that relationship, we talk family. It even got emotional for him. It’s very rare that you see one of the all-time greats be vulnerable like that in this space. With The Set, we try to get underneath the helmet and really find the person.”
