Insane stats show how Man City have overtaken Man United since 6-1 win

This weekend will mark 10 years since Manchester City shook up English football with a 6-1 win over rivals Manchester United.

On the face of it, nobody could quite believe what they were seeing when Sir Alex Ferguson’s men were well and truly put to the sword by their neighbours at Old Trafford. It seemed like such a bizarre result but with City going on to win the Premier League title in the same season, it soon became clear that a momentum shift was happening in Manchester.

It wasn’t exactly a subtle one, either, with City going through a sustained period of domestic dominance in the last decade that’s vaulted them above United in terms of their overall ability. Essentially, in the words of WWE star Roman Reigns, it’s their yard now.

The turning of the tide

Mario Balotelli is fondly remembered as one of the heroes that day but the actual story is told by the numbers. As per BBC, Manchester City have won five league titles in comparison to Manchester United’s one since that fateful afternoon and they’ve won seven domestic cups compared to United’s two. The Red Devils have a Europa League win to their name but in many ways, the sustained progression that City have enjoyed in the Champions League shows that a European title is almost inevitable.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer would love nothing more than to flip the switch and turn it all around but under the current set of circumstances, Manchester City and Pep Guardiola don’t look like surrendering their crown anytime soon.
