Jack Wilshire has decided to definitively hang up his boots after playing for his country and generating a huge net worth.
At just 30, the talented player has decided that he no longer wishes to play professional football. Having risen to prominence during his time with Arsenal, it appeared the playmaker would have a very successful career ahead.
His elusive movement, footballing IQ, combination play, and all-around leadership skills saw him become a fan favourite at The Emirates. He made 125 appearances for the North London side en route to claiming two FA Cups and a Community Shield.
However, his success extended far beyond the club game. Wilshire proudly recorded 34 caps for his beloved England, whom he represented at the 2014 World Cup.
Unfortunately, he suffered badly from injuries. Slowly, his form began to drop, and in 2018, he went to West Ham before dropping down to the Championship with Bournemouth.
Ultimately, he ended up at Danish side AGF, where he decided to bring his journey to an end.
Jack Wilshire retires from football
On July 8, the former England international took to Twitter to announce the difficult decision.
In a statement, he said: “Today I am announcing my retirement from playing professional football: It has been an unbelievable journey filled with so many incredible moments, and I feel privileged to have experienced all that I did during my career. From being the little boy kicking a ball around in the garden to captaining my beloved Arsenal and playing for my country at a World Cup. I have lived my dream.”
He continued: “In truth, it has been difficult to accept that my career has been slipping away in recent times due to reasons outside of my control whilst feeling that I have still had so much to give. Having played at the very highest level, I have always held such huge ambitions within the game, and if I am truthful, I did not envisage being in this position at times. However, having had time to reflect and talk with those closest with me, I know that now is the right time, and despite the difficult moments, I look back on my career with great pride at what I have achieved.”
However, despite the sadness of the situation, he has a new venture right around the corner. According to The Athletic, he will take over as the new head coach of Arsenal Under-18s. This position will undoubtedly give him something to focus on while he processes living life without the buzz of setting foot on the pitch. In addition, it will add to his already healthy bank account.
