Jake Paul claims McGregor fight is ‘closer than anyone thinks’

Jake Paul has claimed that a fight against Conor McGregor is “closer” to being booked than anyone thinks.

This Saturday night, Paul will attempt to further build his brand and some momentum when he fights Ben Askren in an unusual YouTuber vs retired MMA star boxing match. The majority of fans see Askren as the “good guy” in this scenario, but most also think Paul could cause him some genuine problems with his power.

Alas, this isn’t the end goal for Jake – far from it, in fact.

The big next step in this process seems to be a fight against Conor McGregor. As we all know, McGregor is currently preparing for his trilogy fight against Dustin Poirier on July 10.

Beyond that, however, McGregor could be lured into a boxing return if it’s under the right circumstances.

During a pre-fight press conference, Paul made it clear that he thinks it could happen in the next few years.

“I think we both are on a road to each other,” Paul said. “He wants another boxing fight. He wants to fight Manny Pacquiao. He would get toasted. He just keeps on taking Ls.

“So I think him fighting me would not only be his money fight, but it would technically be the easiest challenge, right? Fighting Jake Paul would probably be easier than fighting Manny Pacquiao and it would be just as big.

“I think we’re a lot closer to a Jake Paul-Conor McGregor fight than anyone thinks. I think it could happen in the next 24 months.”

“Conor’s the big name,” Paul added. “He’s a A-list celebrity, and there are very few fighters who are A-list celebrities. So we’ll see what happens. I hope he wins against Dustin, I guess, so that the fight becomes more exciting.”

It may not be the fight everyone wants, but there’s absolutely no doubting it would make a small fortune for all involved.
