Jamie Carragher has claimed that Christian Pulisic will never reach the same level as Eden Hazard.
Pulisic, 22, stepped up last night and scored a pivotal away goal for Chelsea in their Champions League semi-final first leg against Real Madrid. While Real did manage to equalise on the night, the goal means the Blues can go through to the UCL final even if they only draw the second leg 0-0.
Carragher questions Christian Pulisic
Pulisic hasn’t always had the best of luck throughout the season with many believing he hasn’t quite hit the heights expected of him.
Alas, even with that being the case, he made an impact when it mattered the most last night – and the hope will be that he can do the same next week.
Many are of the opinion that Pulisic is seen as the heir to the Eden Hazard throne. However, during his punditry duties with CBS Sports, Carragher threw some cold water on that idea.
“I’m a big fan but I don’t think he’ll get to the level of Eden Hazard. Apologies, he won’t.
“Eden Hazard was the best player in the Premier League for four years and Belgian finished third in the World Cup (in 2018), he was the best player in the tournament – that is the level we are talking about with Hazard.
“This is not me knocking Pulisic – it might look like that on social media after the show from certain people! But I think we forget how good Hazard was.
“He was my favourite player in the Premier League and for Pulisic to get there and to light up a major tournament for the US will be difficult.
“Yes, I think he can have a brilliant career and he has a lot of potential but I don’t see him getting to that level.”
