Jones hits out at Adesanya coach over superfight claims

Jon Jones has told Israel Adesanya’s head coach to “give it up” after he claimed their superfight could still happen.

Adesanya’s hopes of a showdown against Jones took a big blow on Saturday night at UFC 259. ‘The Last Stylebender’ moved up to light heavyweight but was unsuccessful in dethroning champion Jan Blachowicz in Las Vegas.

Superfight pipedream

Jones, as you can probably imagine, had some fun with the defeat after the bout – but it didn’t stop there.

Adesanya’s head coach Eugene Bareman spoke to Submission Radio and noted that his greatest student could still go to war with Jones somewhere down the road. He listed Israel’s star power and ability to draw big money as reasons why ‘Bones’ could still be tempted.

Alas, as we’ve come to expect, Jon wasn’t going to let that comment slide without a retort.

“Give it up coach, we’ve all seen your cards, your boy has almost no take down defense or offense off his back. Now you’re just being a cloud trout, if you would honestly send him in there against a 260lb wrestler after that last performance, you don’t care about his well being”.

Adesanya lost to an incredibly talented champion in Blachowicz and arguably could’ve had an outside chance of getting the decision with a better fifth round. Jones, on the other hand, has his hands full as he prepares to make his heavyweight debut later this year.

Right now, any fight between the two seems to be miles off given Adesanya’s first foray into a higher weight division – as we’ve seen many times though, money talks and there’s no doubting a meeting between both men would be a huge pull.
