Julian Nagelsmann asked about Ronaldo future, gives blunt reply

Julian Nagelsmann gave a blunt response when asked about the future of Cristiano Ronaldo and a potential move to Bayern’s rivals, Borussia Dortmund.

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner has spent most of this summer looking for a way to leave Manchester United. In search of Champions League football, Ronaldo’s agent, Jorge Mendes, has offered the superstar to many of Europe’s elite.

Unfortunately, none have taken up Mendes on an offer thus far. Chelsea, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, and Atletico Madrid all turned down the chance to sign Ronaldo. In the past week, both Milan clubs have also rejected a move for the Portugal captain, per AS.

Sadly, Ronaldo is now running out of options if he wants to escape Old Trafford this summer. Aside from leaving via transfer, rumours also swirled that the Red Devils may terminate his contract to allow him to leave.

As a result of all the speculation, Ronaldo posted to Instagram to let fans know that he will tell “the truth” when he does an interview in a few weeks’ time. But this did not stop further reports linking the Portugal star to a German team.

Dortmund distance themselves from Man United star

Last week, another Bundesliga giant emerged as a possible destination for Man United’s wantaway No.7. Borussia Dortmund were reportedly weighing up a move for Ronaldo, as they could offer him Champions League football.

However, the club’s CEO, Hans-Joachim Watzke, has shut down talk of a transfer.

“I love this player, it’s certainly a charming idea to see Cristiano play at Signal Iduna Park,” said Watzke, quoted via Manchester Evening News. “But there is no contact at all between the parties involved. From that point of view, one should stop talking about it.”

So, Dortmund join the list of clubs to reject a move for Cristiano Ronaldo. Their apparent interest caught Bayern’s attention, though, with Julian Nagelsmann commenting on a potential move.

Nagelsmann comments honestly on Ronaldo future

The Bayern Munich manager seemed unbothered at the prospect of Ronaldo joining a rival team.

“To be honest, I don’t care if Cristiano Ronaldo goes to Borussia,” said Nagelsmann candidly, via the Daily Mirror. “Whether he goes there or not, he doesn’t matter to me. The only thing I know is that he has a contract with United. I’ve already learned not to talk about players who aren’t mine.

“Ronaldo is not the youngest anymore, and that means you spend a lot of money. I think many clubs would like to have him, but 15 clubs in Germany could not afford his salary. And I don’t see him earning around €500,000 per [week] – I simply cannot imagine it.”

Despite the initial negativity, Nagelsmann did admit that signing Ronaldo can boost any side that rolls the dice on him.

“Everyone knows that he is a great player, capable of scoring many goals. And, if you involve him, you will sell many shirts.”

Overall, it appears the Bayern boss was never totally on board with the idea of having the Portugal captain in his team. Judging by this weekend’s result, the Bavarians are not lacking in reinforcements either.
