Kai Havertz’s return to Arsenal’s starting XI shocks for one reason

Kai Havertz is back in Arsenal’s starting XI for the first time in almost a year.

However, there’s one element of his comeback that’s taken fans by surprise.

WOW: Legendary goalkeeper claims he made Ole Gunnar Solskjaer cry after making an epic save

Kai Havertz is playing for Arsenal as a midfielder

Prior to tonight’s Champions League clash with Kairat, Kai Havertz hadn’t been on the football pitch for the referee’s opening whistle since a clash with Newcastle United last February.

The striker, who suffered a torn hamstring that ruined his 2024/25 campaign, followed by an injured knee, which has destroyed the start of his 2025/26 season, has finally found himself back in Arsenal’s starting line-up.

However, there is somewhat of a twist, as the German is playing this evening’s match as a midfielder

Fans were quick to react to the news.

One ‘Gunner’ tweeted: “He is the fourth choice striker behind Viktor Gyokeres, Mikel Merino and Gabriel Jesus, so Mikel Arteta is just trying to put him in.”

While another, rather more positively, wrote: “Our title charge starts now.”
