Kevin Holland reacts hilariously to bizarre VAR-style UFC finish

UFC middleweight Kevin Holland opted for comedy in the face of adversity after a strange finish to his fight over the weekend.

It’s been an odd year for Kevin Holland who, at the conclusion of 2020, seemed to be one of the most exciting prospects in the entire promotion. “Big Mouth” tied the UFC record for most wins in a calendar year and even managed to defeat UFC legend Jacare Souza in one of the most unique finishes in recent memory.

Alas, things haven’t quite gone to plan since then with defeats to Derek Brunson and Marvin Vettori highlighting the many holes Holland had in his wrestling game. The 28-year-old wanted to try and rectify those mistakes by focusing heavily on that side of the sport in the lead-up to his bout against Kyle Daukaus on Saturday and, for the most part, things were going pretty well in the first round after Holland managed to stuff a series of takedown attempts from Daukaus.

A year to forget for “Trailblazer”

Unfortunately a clash of heads briefly knocked Holland out and while he did manage to get back into the fight, Daukaus locked in a submission and appeared to secure the win.

However, referee Dan Miragliotta proceeded to review the footage after the fight had ended – taking so long to do so that even VAR’s biggest supporters would’ve been questioning his methods.

The end result was that Daukaus’ win was changed to a no contest, prompting calls from both men for them to take part in a rematch later this year.

The middleweight division continues to serve up some tremendous contenders with each and every passing week with both of these individuals having a whole lot of potential regarding what they could do from here. Alas, before they can move forward with that, it feels like there’s some unfinished business to settle.
