Klopp comments on potential Rangnick appointment will excite United fans

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has said that compatriot Ralf Rangnick’s potential appointment as the interim boss of Manchester United is “not good news for other clubs”.

The Athletic reported yesterday that United have agreed on a deal to appoint the German coach.

Reports have emerged that United have agreed on a deal in principle with Lokomotiv Moscow to release him from his contract there.

If the appointment goes through, Rangnick will arrive in English football with many admirers. Klopp himself and Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel have discussed the German’s influence on them in the past.

With United currently eighth in the Premier League, the 63-year-old will immediately want to hit the ground running. Klopp is one manager who expects impeding United boss Rangnick to do just that.

What did Klopp say about Rangnick?

In his pre-match press conference ahead of Liverpool’s Premier League fixture against Southampton, Klopp spoke about the impending appointment of Rangnick at United.

He said (as per Sky Sports): “Unfortunately a good coach is coming to England, that’s how it is, to Manchester United.”

“Ralf is obviously a really experienced manager. He built most famously two clubs from nowhere to proper threats in Germany with Hoffenheim and Leipzig.”

“United will be organised on the pitch. We should realise that – that’s obviously not good news for other teams.”

In recent weeks, defensive organisation has been a real weak point for United. The appointment of Rangnick should bring some stability back to the side.

In addition, his aggressive, pressing style of play should also more closely match that of Liverpool than the style incorporated by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Hard-working, pacy players such as Jadon Sancho, Mason Greenwood, Scott McTominay and Marcus Rashford should thrive. A more high-pressing style could also be exceptionally well-suited to Donny van de Beek’s attributes.

Since signing from Ajax last summer, the Dutchman has struggled to establish his place in the Red Devils side. Indeed, he has made just three starts this season in all competitions.

In conclusion, with the expected appointment of Rangnick for the rest of this season, United players will have the opportunity to shine.
