Paris Saint-Germain star Kylian Mbappe has confirmed that he wanted to leave the club during the summer transfer window.
While things are starting to click into place with the Mbappe, Neymar and Messi alliance as PSG sit atop the Ligue 1 table, there’s definitely more than an ounce of trouble in paradise. They’ve been unconvincing in the Champions League, they lost to Rennes at the weekend and Kylian Mbappe continues to be linked with a move to Real Madrid.
PSG supporters watched on as a parade of rumours began to float around just a matter of months ago regarding the 22-year-old and what his immediate future was going to look like. In the end he stayed in the French capital but in a recent interview, Mbappe sensationally revealed that he did ask to leave when Madrid came calling.
The next chapter?
“I wanted the club to have a fee for a quality replacement,” said Mbappe.
“My position was clear, I said that I wanted to leave.
“I did not appreciate the fact that they said I came [with the news he wanted to leave] in the last week of August. I said at the end of July that I wanted to go.
“I said it early enough so that the club could react. I wanted everyone to come out of this stronger, that we leave hand in hand.”
Mbappe went on to say that he’s still happy to be playing for Paris Saint-Germain, but that may be because he knows that a move to Spain awaits once the current season comes to an end.
