Kylian Mbappe’s Real Madrid move is an open secret.
The French superstar has been clear about his future on several occasions. Last summer, he asked the PSG board to be transferred, but the Paris giants refused to listen.
Despite Mbappe’s contract ending this June, PSG’s position was clear. They would rather lose their young star for free in 2022 than sell him before his contract expired.
It was one of the biggest power moves in recent football history. The French giants rejected a record €200m offer for a footballer who would only play for them for 12 more months.
PSG know all about Mbappe’s obsession with Real Madrid
PSG are well aware of the Spaniards’ interest. After all, Los Blancos were their main competitors when they first signed Mbappe in 2018.
The Frenchman was coming off a breakthrough season with Monaco, having registered 26 goals and 15 assists.
Luis Ferrer, an Argentinian agent formerly in PSG’s transfer board, helped to orchestrate the star’s move to Paris. It wasn’t an easy job. In an interview with AS, Ferrer has made an astonishing revelation about Mbappe’s Real obsession.
According to Ferrer, even Mbappe’s bathroom was adorned with Real Madrid memorabilia.
“PSG director of sport Antero Henrique and I visited Mbappe at his house. It was the end of May, and the season was almost over. I was shocked to see that even his bathroom was decorated with Real Madrid pictures.”
Nevertheless, Ferrer and Henrique managed to pull the move off. Well aware that they would have to tug at Mbappe’s heartstrings and make a strong appeal to his emotions, PSG convinced the youngster by playing the hometown hero card.
Ferrer’s plea was a simple one: “Stay here – this is your city, and the World Cup is just around the corner. Play for PSG for three or four years, then move to Madrid. You’ve got plenty of time.”
Kylian Mbappe’s Real Madrid move could happen anytime soon
Because clubs can freely contact players whose contract ends in six months’ time, Madrid could announce Mbappe at any point.
With PSG set to face Real in the Champions League, an early announcement wouldn’t sit well with the French giants.
It’s a matchup that doesn’t need any more spice. To start with, former Madrid captain Sergio Ramos will make his return to the Bernabeu after failing to reach a contract extension agreement last summer.
Ramos and Mbappe won’t be the only attractions. Real Madrid arch-enemy Leo Messi will face Los Blancos for the first time after his Barcelona exit.
PSG haven’t given up on Mbappe yet. They have made a few attempts to renew the star’s contract this season, but, unfortunately for them, they have all been rejected.
PSG’s chances look extremely unlikely, as even Mbappe’s teammates know what his future holds. Two weeks ago, they wound him up with a “Mbappe 2050” t-shirt, mocking the chances of him signing another PSG contract.
