Ligue 2’s Goal of the Season was a spectacular solo effort

The Ligue 2 Goal of the Season was announced over the weekend – and the winning strike is certainly worthy of an award.

Scored by AJ Auxerre’s Gauthier Hein, the goal is an incredible solo effort and combines insane skill with outstanding finishing ability.

The strike was the third goal scored in Auxerre’s 4-0 victory over Niort last month.

Receiving the ball on the right flank, Hein cuts inside before holding off two defenders and lining himself up for a strike inside the box.

Instead of shooting, however, he produces an inch-perfect roulette to evade another set of defenders in the box.

There’s still plenty to do from there, though. With the goalkeeper closing in – and a relatively small gap in which to place his shot – Hein then fires an unstoppable right-footed drive into the top corner.

Check out the goal below:

Hein scored four goals during the Ligue 2 season, including on the last day of the season as Auxerre won 3-2 at Sochaux.

However, whilst the award was a memorable moment on an individual level for the midfielder, Auxerre missed out on the play-offs by two points.

They haven’t played in Ligue 1 since 2012, a further 16 years after they won the French title under the management of Guy Roux, who spent an astonishing 36 unbroken years in charge between 1964 and 2000.
