Lionel Messi has claimed the bragging rights over Cristiano Ronaldo once again.

After enjoying a significantly better World Cup than his rival, the Argentine has just rubbed salt in the wounds.

Whether they like it or not, Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo have been tattooed into each other’s lives, with the pair having danced at the top of the footballing mountain alongside one another for over two decades.

At their peaks, they were almost inseparable, with both men pushing the other to do incredible things in the sport.

However, with their careers now in the twilight years, it appears that, in the eyes of many, Messi has pulled away from Ronaldo in the GOAT conversation.

At their very best, the Inter Miami man often received criticism for not branching away from Barcelona. After all, the Portuguese superstar had showcased his class at not just Real Madrid, but at Manchester United and Juventus as well.

However, according to the Global League rankings, it’s now Messi who has the edge. Following the World Cup, the MLS earned the tenth place on the leaderboard, meaning that while Messi is back in a top ten league, Ronaldo is stuck playing in the Saudi Pro League, which is ranked at 36th.

While Messi has arguably done enough to put distance between himself and Ronaldo, can the same be said for Pele?

Despite the Brazilian having done less than the 39-year-old in the club game, there’s no doubting his record on the international scene.
