Lloyd Kelly’s road to playing in the Champions League is nothing short of a fairytale.
The 27-year-old may have cost his side in tonight’s fixture with Galatasaray, but in the grand scheme of things, he’s certainly winning.
Lloyd Kelly went from Bristol City to Juventus
Across the globe, millions of gamers have popped their copies of FIFA, and now EAFC, into their PlayStations and embarked on thrilling adventures on career mode.
During these experiences, players can take the character they’ve created from humble beginnings in the Championship all the way to European glory. However, seldom does this happen in real life, with most top names starting their careers at big clubs after making their way through the academies.
But Lloyd Kelly’s road to success is akin to that of the aforementioned virtual characters, with the Englishman making his professional debut with Bristol City.
After showcasing his skills for his hometown club, Kelly made the move to AFC Bournemouth before being snapped up by Newcastle United.
In February 2025, the defender joined Juventus on loan before moving to Italy full-time, where his career has flourished, scoring pivotal goals against Inter Milan and Borussia Dortmund.
Lloyd Kelly made a huge mistake in Champions League clash
While Kelly has watched his dreams come true before his very eyes, tonight was the stuff of nightmares. After gaining a 2-1 lead against the Turkish giants, things took a turn for the worse.
A determined Galatasaray began finding the net for fun, with the Italian club’s British defender being blamed for the defeat.
His performance, panned across social media due to several mistakes throughout the fixture, ended in disaster when he lost the ball inside the box, allowing Sacha Boey to pounce to secure a 5-2 win for the Süper Lig leaders.
The 36x Serie A champions now have a lot of work to do in the second leg of their clash with Galatasaray, which takes place next Wednesday.
