Man United considering swap deal offer for Barcelona’s Sergino Dest

Man United have had a challenging transfer window so far, but with time running out, they’ve set their sights on Barcelona defender Sergino Dest in a move to bolster their defence.

Erik ten Hag has had a challenging start to his career as manager at the Theatre of Dreams. Upon arrival, he set a series of strict rules for players to follow in order to teach them some much-needed discipline.

And it appeared that this decision had made a real difference. United looked spectacular in pre-season, picking up three wins, including a 4-0 demolition job over Liverpool.

However, their campaign hasn’t started brilliantly, with a 2-1 loss to Brighton bringing their hopes crashing back down to Earth.

Then came Saturday’s humiliating 4-0 defeat at Brentford, which underlined the necessity of new additions to the squad. While they’ve made some signings, fans know that they need more.

Although the club has brought in Lisandro Martinez, Christian Eriksen and Tyrell Malacia, it’s the negatives of the window have come to the forefront. The future of their star man, Cristiano Ronaldo, is still uncertain, and despite a rollercoaster saga, United is yet to sign Frenkie de Jong.

However, Ten Hag and assistant Steve McClaren are still scanning the market for players that could make a difference. And with the right-back position being a weak area, he’s looking to secure a USA international to fill the void.

Man United target Sergino Dest

According to the Daily Mail, the Dutch manager has had his eye on Celtic’s Josip Juranović. But now, a new option has presented itself. As per Spanish outlet Sport, Ten Hag wants to bring another of his former Ajax players to Old Trafford.

Barca boss Xavi would reportedly accept £20 million for the player. However, the same source claims that United wish to lower that fee, and offer Diogo Dalot in a swap deal. Although, with the Spanish giants’ current financial issues considered, it seems unlikely they will budge.

Dest has developed a solid reputation at the Nou Camp, despite his lack of playing time recently. His strong attacking prowess, defensive IQ, and ability to maintain possession would make him a key ingredient in the current rebuild taking place at the struggling Manchester club.
