Man United fans boo Paul Pogba, he responds by cupping his ears

The relationship between Paul Pogba and Man United fans has finally reached a breaking point if this weekend’s incident is anything to go by.

Pogba’s future at the Old Trafford club is already in doubt. His current contract expires at the end of this season. As a result, the Frenchman could move on to pastures new.

Interested clubs include former team Juventus, Real Madrid, a pair of Premier League teams, and Paris Saint-Germain. The Parisians see themselves as the frontrunners for his signature and have admired Pogba for a long time. PSG have even gone as far as offering Pogba a contract in the summer. However, he has not yet responded.

Despite widespread reports on Pogba’s unhappiness and desire to leave, Man United have not given up yet. Initial reports suggested that United offered an incredible £500,000 a week to keep the Frenchman at Old Trafford. However, talkSPORT have clarified that this is not the case, amidst a squad backlash from the rumours.

Although the club seemingly wishes to keep Paul Pogba, some Man United fans seem happy to watch him leave.

Man United fans boo Paul Pogba

Amid a very expressive day from United supporters that included a protest against the Glazer ownership, the Old Trafford side hosted Norwich.

After blowing a 2-0 lead to the struggling Canaries, Paul Pogba was subbed off in the second half at 2-2. The news of his substitution received sarcastic cheers before some supporters booed the Frenchman. In addition, a section of fans chanted “f**k off Pogba” to make sure their opinion was crystal clear.

United won 3-2. However, the fans were still not impressed. As he headed down the tunnel after the game, they booed Pogba once more. The midfielder cupped his ear towards the crowd, gesturing them to keep it coming.

Unsurprisingly, this only angered the Man United faithful further.

Reaction from the incident

Following the match, Pogba made a post on social media. However, he did not reference the events from the game.

“Very important win for all of us today,” was all the Frenchman wrote after their win over Norwich.

Manager Ralf Rangnick, on the other hand, was not quiet on the matter. He did not understand why Man United supporters targeted Paul Pogba specifically.

“I didn’t hear it myself, to be honest,” said Rangnick on the boos, per ESPN. “I think the fans here are amazing, I really do. The support in the stadium today was great, it could not have been any better. I can understand if the fans are frustrated and disappointed, so are we.

“I don’t think it makes sense to take on and to target any individual person or player,” the manager explained. “It’s a collective responsibility. For me, it doesn’t make sense, and this is why I will always defend and protect my players.”

Despite Rangnick’s best efforts, the cracks in the relationship between Pogba and the fans look too big to paper over.
