Man United starlet Amad Diallo scores with his first shot for loan club Rangers

Manchester United fans had mixed feelings when the club announced that Amad Diallo was moving to Rangers on loan.

They wanted to see more of the 19-year-old in a United shirt. Yet, having started only one game for United this season – in the dead rubber Champions League tie at home to Young Boys – Diallo needed minutes.

United fans suspect Diallo is an exceptional talent based on how highly his coaches spoke of him and the glimpses of quality in senior cameos.

His debut for Rangers did nothing to change that suspicion.

Amad Diallo scores with first Rangers shot

The reigning Scottish champions, Rangers are on course to retain their title this season. However, bitter rivals Celtic won’t make it easy.

Rangers started the day with a four-point lead at the top of the table. Although the margins for error were slim, Rangers boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst started Diallo from the off. The young forward repaid his faith with a goal inside five minutes.

Diallo’s pace and dribbling ability are among his finest attributes, but it’s also clear that he has poacher’s instincts. He timed his run perfectly to get on the end of a tremendous Joe Ayodele-Aribo ball across the face of goal.

The precocious talent has made a habit of scoring on his debut, finding the back of the net on his debuts for both Atalanta and United before.

Unfortunately for Rangers, Diallo’s goal was not enough to seal three points. Five further goals followed in a thrilling 3-3 draw.

How much did Man United pay for Amad Diallo?

Diallo joined Manchester United in January 2021 after a deal was agreed with Atalanta a few months prior. The cost of the deal was an initial €25 million that could rise to €40m depending on which bonuses are triggered.
