Manuel Neuer slammed for ‘Horrible’ mistakes during Champions League quarter-final with Real Madrid

Manuel Neuer has suffered two outrageous blunders against Real Madrid in the Champions League.

The legendary shot-stopper made an array of good saves last week in the first leg of the quarter-final. However, tonight, he has been left wanting the ground to swallow him up.

Going into this evening, Bayern Munich had the momentum in its favour. With a 2-1 lead on aggregate and home advantage, they undoubtedly entered the match as the favourites to advance to the final four of the competition.

However, that soon evaporated, with Real Madrid bouncing back after just 45 seconds.

Throughout his career, Manuel Neuer has cemented his status as one of the greatest goalkeepers to have ever played the game. Alas, he failed to live up to that mantle in a moment of madness.

After a horrendous pass from the German, who was outside of his box, landed at the feet of Arda Güler, the Turk had an easy job. He smashed the ball into the back of an empty net to remind the opposition team that they were anything but home and dry.

Of course, viewers were quick to head to social media to voice their opinion on the incident.

One asked: “What has Manuel Neuer done?” Another added: “Manuel Neuer channeling his inner Antonín Kinsky. The tie is open now.”

A third posted: “Manuel Neuer is the most overrated keeper in history.”

Luckily for the icon, Bayern were quick to hit back, with Aleksandar Pavlović restoring his side’s lead on aggregate in the sixth minute.

However, refusing to lie down, Güler scored again, this time via a free kick, which, while well struck, ought to have been saved by the goalkeeper.

One user exclaimed: “Wonderful free kick, but what on earth is Neuer doing?”

Another raged: “It’s absolutely horrendous from the goalkeeper.”

Once again, the Bundesliga giants rallied, with Harry Kane scoring before half-time, but it wasn’t enough to deter Madrid, with Kylian Mbappe smashing the ball past the goalkeeper, who certainly isn’t having a particularly enjoyable night.
