In 2009, Jeff Hardy lost his dog in a house fire, and WWE decided to incorporate it into his rivalry with Matt Hardy. But ‘The Angelic Diablo’ didn’t feel overly comfortable with the storyline.
Over the years, ‘The Hardy Boyz’ have solidified themselves as one of the most incredible partnerships in wrestling history.
They’ve captivated fans with their incredible performances and daredevil mentality. The dynamic duo thought nothing of diving off a ladder or launching themselves off the top of a cage. And for this very reason, the world absolutely adored them.
Throughout their stint in the promotion, they won a grand total of eight tag-team titles, in addition to Jeff’s run as a WWE world champion. But despite their enormous reputation, they didn’t always have the best relationship with the company.

Matt Hardy and Jeff Hardy didn’t have the best time in WWE
In January, Vince McMahon released Jeff for refusing rehab after entering the crowd during the middle of a match in Texas. He abandoned his partner Drew McIntryre, who was left alone to fight off Roman Reigns and The Usos. Consequently, fans were left concerned for his well-being.
However, despite his bizarre antics, Hardy’s test results showed he wasn’t on drugs. Therefore, the company needn’t have made the call they did, and despite offering him a place in the Hall of Fame if he’d make his return, he decided to look elsewhere.
He rejoined his brother at AEW, and the siblings have gone back to treating crowds to spectacular performances. But they haven’t forgotten about their time with their old promotion, and Matt has recently opened up about a storyline he hated.
Jeff Hardy lost his dog, and WWE used it for a storyline
Although the brothers usually worked together, WWE pitted them against each other on occasion. Although their feud was entertaining, the company went way too far with one of their writing decisions. They decided to use the death of ‘The Enigmatic Soul’s’ beloved dog.
Matt opened up about the call during a recent edition of ‘Wrestling With Freddie‘: “That was an event that was so tragic and so sad. Literally, his house burned down. All the old tights and all his old gear were lost in the fire.”
He continued: “His dog died. It was a really traumatic event for him. Just for them to put that in our storyline was almost like it was in bad taste. I’ll never forget them burning a dog collar, and then I held the dog collar.”
“I remember saying, ‘I don’t know. I mean, I’ll do it. If this is what you guys want me to do, I’ll do it. But like, this could be too much.’ I could just feel the air coming out of the crowd. It’s not that they were mad at me because I’m playing the bad guy in the story. They were mad at me because this is in poor taste. So that’s how it felt.”
