Mesut Ozil reveals his Euro 2020 fantasy football squad

Former Germany star Mesut Ozil has revealed his fantasy football squad for this summer’s Euro 2020 tournament.

During his nine year spell with the German national team, Ozil featured in five big tournaments between the World Cup and the Euros.

In that time he established himself as one of the best “big match” players of his generation, and while things may have ended on a sour note, his contributions across that period cemented himself as one of the best playmakers around in his prime.

From number 10 to gaffer

Now, with this year’s rescheduled Euros being right around the corner, Ozil couldn’t resist getting in on the fantasy football action, as millions across the globe battle their friends and family in a series of mini-leagues.

Mesut has opted for a consistent option in goal in the form of Wojciech Szczęsny with Altay Bayındır serving as his back-up option. The rest of the bench is made up of Ferran Torres, Irfan Can Kahveci and Attila Szalai.

The defensive structure of the squad features options from Germany, Ukraine and Portugal in Antonio Rudiger, Oleksandr Zinchenko and Pepe, creating a 3-4-3 spine for his side.

Leroy Sane is the second German representative with Phil Foden being the only man from the England setup to play a role. Halil Dervişoğlu completes the trio of Turkish players with West Ham’s Tomáš Souček rounding off the midfield.

Then, we get onto the three big hitters: Cristiano Ronaldo, Alvaro Morata and Karim Benzema, all of whom are tipped to do well in the Golden Boot race.

The former Arsenal sensation will likely be watching very closely when Turkey open the Euros against Italy tonight before Germany’s campaign begins when they play world champions France on Tuesday.
